A Georgian national and two Turkish national crew members died of gas poisoning on a ship. The ship was sailing from Cartagena Port in southeastern Spain.
According to the Port Authorities of Cartagena, the Liberian-flagged cargo ship had an accident the earlier evening. The vessel was transporting sunflowers.
A gas leak occurred in one of the ship tanks. Maintenance and technical work were going on in the tank. According to authorities, another sailor was seriously injured. The injured sailor was flown out in a helicopter and is presently at a hospital under treatment.
After the procedures and mandatory work are complete in Spain, the bodies of the two Turkish sailors will be sent to Turkey. The Turkish company that owned the vessel has noted all the possibilities that might have caused the incident. Details about the findings will be shared later.
