Six crew members of a cargo vessel were urgently evacuated after a COVID-19 outbreak in San Francisco Bay. The vessel ‘Global Striker’ had 21 crew members on board, with 19 members testing positive for the COVID-19 virus.
The cause of the outbreak and the vaccination status of the crew members is unknown. Six members of the 21 crew were shifted to the University of California San Francisco Medical Center and California Pacific Medical Center.
A San Francisco Fire Department fireboat evacuated them urgently. The cargo vessel was travelling from Sacramento Port when the COVID-19 positive cases were detected. According to officials of the fire department, none of the six members is critical. The boat is docked in Pier 26.
In addition to other US states, California saw a rise in the COVID-19 cases of the delta variant. Also, the hospitalizations of infected patients are rising.
Fully vaccinated individuals have a lesser chance of being severely ill, hospitalized or dying from the COVID-19 virus. Around 57% of the total population of California are fully vaccinated. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, California recorded more than 4.3 million cases and massive 65,000+ deaths.
