Five Indians who had been stranded in Iran have taken assistance for repatriation from the Indian government. The Indians are seafarers who had been stranded in Chabahar port, Iran for two years.

The Indians — Thamizhselvan Rengasamy, Naveen Singh, Mandar Milind Worlikar, Aniket Sham Yenpure, and Pranav Kumar — had been arrested for their connection to a narcotics case. They will be released after a court in Chabahar had proved them to be innocent.

These individuals had spent more than 400 days in the Chabahar Central Jail. On March 9, all of them had been released from the prison. However, their passports have not been returned.

Puneet Singh, the President of the Indian world forum has written to Narendra Modi, India’s Prime Minister on their behalf asking for help. He highlighted that they had been duped by the recruiters. Puneet had added that Rs 500,000 was extorted from each individual as charges for arranging overseas employment.

The agent had assured these Indians of employment with shipping companies in the UAE. But they had all been diverted to Iran and were not given any remuneration. The ages of five Indians are between 30 and 22. It is understood that on receiving the letter, the Prime Minister’s office has taken measures and that has resulted in progress.
