Two Cargo Ships & Three Floating Border Outposts Launched Simultaneously At Cochin Shipyard

Cochin Shipyard has introduced five vessels from the building dock on Wednesday. Three of these are serving as Floating Border Outposts (FBOP) for the Border Security Force (BSF). The remaining are Mini General Cargo Ships. The latter is serving the JSW Shipping & Logistics Pvt Ltd.

The vessels had been inaugurated at the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory. The three FBOPs are essential for India as these would act as strategic border base stations. The vessels have been manufactured indigenously for the nation’s safety. JSW vessels, in the meanwhile, will be a boost for business via inland and coastal waterways.

Mukesh Tyagi, DIG – BSF, has said that the FBOPs would be instrumental in strengthening the BSF water wing functional at the country’s western and eastern borders.

The three 46-metre FBOPs are part of a series of nine vessels conceptualized and designed in-house. These have also been classed by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).

The FBOPs are equipped with unique stowage arrangements. The vessels will be a floating base to the flotilla of the fast patrol boats. These will also supply petrol, water, and provisions to smaller boats and deployed on the country’s western and eastern borders.

The 8000 DWT Mini General Cargo Ships are being manufactured for the JSW Group. They are expected to be used to transport dry bulk cargo like iron ore, coal, limestone, and dolomite.
