One of the world’s largest container ships, the 24,000 20-foot-equivalent unit (TEU) “Ever Ace”, successfully docked in the Port of Taipei on Sunday afternoon as part of the ship’s maiden voyage.
At 400 meters long and 61.5 meters wide, it was the largest container ship ever accommodated by an international harbor in Taiwan, according to Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC), which operates the port.
Assisted by port personnel, the ship docked at the port located in New Taipei’s Bali District at about 4 p.m., and was welcomed by a water cannon salute to mark her maiden voyage, according to TIPC.
The ship, which has a deck the size of four football pitches, has a maximum cruising speed of 22.6 knots.
“Ever Ace” is the first of a series of 12 container ships ordered by Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine from shipyards in China and South Korea.
It was built by South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries and was officially delivered on July 29.
On July 30, “Ever Ace” made its maiden voyage to Qingdao in China’s Shandong province and then traveled to Shanghai and Ningbo before arriving in Taipei.
The green-painted “Ever Ace” is scheduled to head to China’s Yantian port on its next stop before heading to Europe. The mega carrier will be providing transport services between Asia and Northern Europe.
