The Taiwan Coast Guard Administration seized a Chinese oil transport and supply ship on the 12th of August after it crossed the maritime borders near Penghu’s Huayu Islet.

Despite multiple radio warnings by the CGA’s Penghu Offshore Flotilla, the Chinese vessel didn’t stop. After that, coast guard officials immediately boarded the vessel to check for illegal products onboard.

The CGA docked the vessel at 15th Penghu Flotilla yard and detained the ship’s captain and all six crew members. All members were tested for Covid-19, and their reports came out negative. After the test, the Chinese crew was taken to Pengshu to be dealt with per the law.

According to reports, instances of Chinese ships crossing the Taiwan-occupied Penghu maritime border have increased since last September. In addition, there are also reports of Chinese vessels crossing the border in the recent past. These are primarily because of illegal fishing in Taiwanese waters.

Although both sides of are handled by separate governments for several years, Beijing claims complete sovereignty over Taiwan. In contrast,

Taiwan too took over the Chinese aggression by boosting strategic ties with powerful nations who oppose Beijing. One of these countries includes the USA.

As per Chinese President Xi Jinping, independence of Taiwan means war. The President has confirmed that it would smash any attempt at Taiwanese independence. The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan called out to stop the expansionist behaviour and act responsibly to maintain regional peace. They further urged the Chinese government to learn from history and promote democratic reforms.
