Weekly US coal ship departures totaled 27 in the week ended June 26, down seven from the previous week and down one from the year-ago week, data from cFlow, S&P Global Platts trade-flow software, showed June 29.
While departures hit a 41-week low, the departing laden and part-laden ships carried 1.2 million dwt, down 24% from the week before.
US Gulf Coast departures totaled six, down 12 week on week and down eight from the year-ago week. USGC departures reached a 56-week low.
The departing coal carriers held 260,682 dwt, down 75% from the previous week.
From USGC, one carrier each went to Brazil, the ARA, the Caribbean, Central America, the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic.
Seven coal carriers left from the US West Coast, touching a five-week high. up two from the week before and down two from the year-ago week.
In the most recent week, the departing ships carried 338,300 dwt, up 111% from the previous week.
Six carriers departed to north Asia, while one left to Oceania.
Departures off the US Atlantic Coast rose two week on week to 14. Compared with the year-ago week, they rose five.
The ships carried 647,620 dwt, up 48% week on week.
Six ships each were headed toward the UK and Continent, while two each were directed toward the ARA and the Caribbean. One each left to north Asia, Oceania, South Asia and one unknown destination.
Port departures
Six coal-laden ships departed from Baltimore in the most recent week, down one week on week.
Three of the departing ships are laden, carrying 161,008 dwt, while the other three were unladen.
S&P Global Platts assessed FOB Baltimore 6,900 kcal/kg NAR 3% sulfur coal, for 15-60-day loading, at $85/mt on June 29, down from $81.90/mt week on week.
At the Port of South Louisiana, six coal carriers departed in the week ended June 26, down 12 from the previous week. Three each were laden and unladen. The laden ships were carrying 196,598 dwt.
Platts assessed FOB New Orleans 6,000 kcal/kg NAR 3% sulfur coal, for 15-60-day loading, at $68.30/mt on June 29, down from $64.65/mt a week ago.
