Indian Coast Guard rescued a Filipino crew member abroad bulk carrier vessel MV Christina J. The person, identified as Ervie Ferraren Dagpin, was ill since Monday night. He was later transferred to the private hospital at Dona Paula for treatment by the Indian Coast Guard.
The cargo vessel was travelling to Port of Tubarao in Brazil from Dahej Port in Gujarat. The vessel officials contacted the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai when Dagpin fell ill. They alerted the operations department at Goa Coast Guard headquarters.
The Indian Coast Guard stated, ‘A crew member of MV Christina J asked for immediate medical attention. The sick crew, named Ervie Ferraren Dagpin, who has a history of hepatitis, complained of abdominal and upper back pain. The vessel then immediately sent a distress message.’
The operations team offered immediate medical assistance to the sick crew and directed the vessel to the Mormugao PortTrust. It reached the anchorage on Tuesday evening. Dagpin was shifted to a smaller boat, brought to the Mormugao Port Trust, and then shifted to the hospital after a check-up.
