The capacity of China’s ports saw increases over the first half of 2021, meeting China’s growing foreign trade volume, the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) said, noting the overall vaccination rate of frontline staff in ports has surpassed 97 percent.
MOT said on a regular press conference that China’s cargo and container handling capacity in the first half of 2021 witnessed year-on-year increase of 13.2 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
Quarantine procedures targeting ports were also strictly implemented. According to related quarantine regulation and measurements, Yantian Port, a critical port in Shenzhen, South China’s Guangdong Province, returned to normal operations with daily capacity of 3.5 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) on June 24 since the port’s first confirmed case was reported on May 21, said MOT.
MOT also announced at the conference that current vaccination rate of frontline staff across China’s ports has surpassed 97 percent. Staff yet to receive a COVID-19 vaccination are now allowed to work in ports, according to a quarantine regulation issued on June 15.
