Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) announced on June 22 that it has formed a global research and development network to develop hydrodynamic technology for eco-friendly smart vessels.
The network consists of 15 organizations from at home and abroad, including four universities, five vessel classification organizations and five research institutes.
The four universities are MIT (US), Seoul National University (Korea), Michigan University (US), and the University of Strathclyde (UK). The five vessel classification organizations are ABS (US), LR (UK), BV (France), KR (Korea), and DNV (Norway).
The five research institutes are SINTEF Ocean (Norway), SSPA (Sweden), CNR (Italy), KRISO (Korea), and HSVA (Germany).
The network aims to lead global technology development efforts by jointly responding to environmental regulations related to the shipbuilding and offshore industries and the emerging key technologies such as autonomous navigation, especially in hydrodynamics, and conduct world-class cooperative research.
