On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Central government on the plea of families of five Indian seafarers who had been stranded in Iran and seeking direction to offer counselling and legal service to seafarers for securing repatriation.
Their families also sought direction to the centre to pursue the issue with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to expedite the disposal of the issue by the Iranian Supreme Court.
A bench of Justice Rekha Palli sought a response from the Ministry of External Affairs or MEA on Tuesday and slated the problem for July 27. The families of stranded Indians have sought direction to provide financial and medical assistance, lodging, and boarding to these seafarers till they get repatriated to India.
Per the plea, all petitioners have humble backgrounds. On completion of marine courses, the seafarers had assured jobs in the UAE.
