INS Airavat, one of the leading warfare vessels of India reached the Ho Chi Minh Port in Vietnam with 100 metric tons of liquid medical oxygen and 300 oxygen containers. This statement issued by the Defence Ministry of India stated that it is a part of the mission SAGAR.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted, “INS Airavat arrives in Vietnam with sufficient oxygen supplies. The cooperative approach in the Indo-Pacific is in practice.”
He further added that the medical supplies were sent to fulfil the requirements as projected by the Government of Vietnam.
The INS Airavat, deployed in South East Asia to deliver Covid relief aid, is an indigenous Landing Ship Tank based in the Visakhapatnam port. It delivered covid relief supplies to Jakarta, Indonesia, last week.

An official said, ‘As an integral part of the SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision, the Indian Navy is constantly coordinating with countries within the Indo-Pacific region. In addition, it is leading at the forefront of several humanitarian missions that span across the Indian Ocean.”
The ties between India and Vietnam have seen an upward trend in the recent past, especially in defence and security.
Last month, an extensive virtual meeting occurred between Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh and his counterpart in Vietnam, Sr Lt Gen Phan Van Giang. As a result, they agreed to strengthen military ties between both countries.

Commander Madhwal said, “The two Navy of the countries are cooperating in different areas. It also includes a composite training program across the fields of submarine, global aviation and technical. They also regularly conduct joint naval exercises as an essential part of bilateral exercises.”
He further added, “The current ship deployment strives to further strengthen the strategic relationship.”
