OpenBridge, an open-source platform enabling the development of cost effective, safe and efficient maritime workplaces, has launched version 3.0.

OpenBridge seeks to solve the problems the maritime industry faces due to the multiple suppliers and many systems that make up ships’ bridges, which often leads to cluttered workplaces, human error, inefficient operation and an increased need for training. According to OpenBridge, the lack of standardised integration frameworks also leads to high development costs and low innovation speed, since suppliers must develop and maintain many system variations aimed at individual suppliers or ship vendors. OpenBridge seeks to solve these problems through an open system for maritime workplace design.

OpenBridge’s new version, which includes a major revision to its entire guideline website, includes the following updates:

• New ECDIS, RADAR, IAS and Conning design cases using OpenBridge 3.0
• New automation section
• New trends and graphs section
• New maritime components
• New design patterns

OpenBridge is a joint industry effort and is free for all to use. According to the OpenBridge website, the companies that partner in the consortium are getting early access to resources and have direct influence on the development of the design system.
