Shipments of goods in and out of the Port of Vancouver have been delayed after wildfires damaged railway tracks near the small western Canadian town of Lytton, the Globe and Mail reported late on Wednesday.
“There are a large number of trains waiting to arrive at the Port of Vancouver,” Canada’s largest port said in a memo to customers cited by the newspaper.
“We are working closely with our container terminal operators, railways and government to understand the impacts of these delays on terminal operations and to develop a recovery plan”.
Authorities at the port did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside regular working hours.
A forest fire that began after three days of record-breaking temperatures destroyed most of Lytton last week.
