Vessel MSC MESSINA suffered a fire in the engine room near Sri Lankan waters on June 25th. It was carrying onboard seafarers from Odesa.
Dmytro Kuleba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, has instructed Ukrainian embassies in Singapore and India to verify information regarding the fire. Some reports say that there were Ukrainian sailors on board too.

Oleh Nikolenko, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, has also shared the same information on his Twitter handle. Per reports, a 20-year-old sailor had burned down within the engine room. This was the young sailor’s second voyage.
The remaining crew members are still on the disabled vessel. The incident took place on June 25. It is from that date the crew has been non-communicable.
