Turkey’s state grain board TMO has started buying wheat in an international tender which closed on Tuesday with about 100,000 tonnes initially purchased, traders said.
The tender seeks up to 395,000 tonnes and more purchases are expected later on Tuesday.
The tonnages purchased and prices are provisional and still subject to final confirmation in coming days.
Shipment is requested between Aug. 16 and Aug. 30. Red milling wheat was sought in a series of consignments of between 20,000 and 50,000 tonnes to a series of ports.
The tender continues an active period of grain importing by Turkey to maintain local supplies and support the country’s large flour export programme.
The TMO on Monday also provisionally purchased about 440,000 tonnes of animal feed barley in a tender.
