Tuticorin Port Sets New Record By Handling Vessel With Highest Parcel Size

A new record for holding a ship with the largest parcel size of 93,719 tonnes was set by the V O Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin, Tamilnadu, on August 29, 2021.

M V Ince Ankara, a Singapore flagged ship, reached the Tuticorin Port with 93,719 tonnes of limestone for Chettinad Cements from Port Mina Saqr in the UAE.

The vessel reached the Tuticorin port on August 26 and started the discharge with the help of three harbour mobile cranes, which can discharge more than 50,000 tonnes per day. The entire offloading process was completed on August 29.

“It is a pleasant joint effort and I recognize the immense efforts and commitment of the vessel agents, stevedores, port and harbour mobile crane operators, officers and all staff of the V.O. Chidambaranar Port.” T.K. Ramachandran, IAS, Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, stated.

The V O Chidambaranar Port has reflected a developing trend in handling cargo in the financial year 2021-22. Registering a growth of 7.14%, so far, the port has handled around 11.33 million tonnes of cargo shipment up to July 2021. There has also been a remarkable improvement in container handling in the VOC port this year compared to the previous ones.
