U.S. crude oil imports went down while exports increased during the week ending Oct. 15, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said Wednesday.

U.S. crude oil imports averaged 5.8 million barrels per day last week, down by 169,000 barrels per day from the previous week, according to the Weekly Petroleum Status Report.

Over the past four weeks, crude oil imports averaged about 6.4 million barrels per day, 19.5 percent more than the same four-week period last year.

Meanwhile, crude oil exports averaged about 3.06 million barrels per day, up by about 546,000 barrels per day from the previous week, data from the report showed.

The United States has been a world important oil producer in the past years with the help of its shale oil production growth.
