Duran said that the 52-year-old M/V Lite Ferry 3 had docked at about 11:45 p.m. Preparations to disembark cargoes from Cebu, like cement, flour, and iron was ongoing. Per the PCG, there were rolling cargoes as well.
The boat had tilted to the starboard, and it partially submerged. When the ramp opened, seawater seeped in. The body of the female crew member was recovered lying beneath a heap of cargoes around 3 am. The vessel was built in 1969. However, it underwent modification in 2013. It weighed 231-gross tonnage. In a post on Facebook, Danilo Lines Inc. wrote on Lite Shipping Corp.’s page that it will immediately deploy a replacement ship to take the Cebu to Ormoc City route.
On Saturday afternoon, it also said that besides the one being undertaken by the PCG-Ormoc City, it would conduct its investigation once 16 crew members, including Alo’s body, arrive in Cebu by Saturday night, or Sunday.
The company promised to cover expenses for Alo’s burial and repatriation and said that her family would receive separation pay, last pay, and also her insurance proceeds.
