Manage MEG4 compliance with digital technology

The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) introduced the 4th version of its Mooring Equipment Guidelines (MEG4) in 2018, with a Mooring System Management Plan (MSMP) for tankers. It followed a very close serious accident when a seafarer was hit by a snapped mooring rope springing back with great force.

Statistics from the European Harbour Masters’ Committee show that 95 percent of personal injury incidents are caused by ropes and wires, and 60 percent of these injuries happen during mooring operations.

Accidents can be reduced by carefully monitoring condition and ‘running hours’ of mooring lines, carefully managing purchasing and retirement of mooring lines, keeping track of all equipment, crew training, managing location of mooring equipment, and ensuring that crew are standing in places where they will not be hit by snapped ropes springing back.

To make it easier for shipping companies, OceanManager Inc. has developed a software tool that helps you properly update and monitor, fleet wide, your Mooring equipment observations, inspections and running hours.

In this webinar, we’ll get an update about the best ways that shipping companies can manage mooring risks, and show how the digital technology can help.

We have an opening talk from Captain Steve Blair, managing director of maritime management systems consultancy Epic Marine Services, Board Advisor to OceanManager Inc. and a former director of business development with the American Bureau of Shipping, explaining where the risks are with mooring lines, and what companies need to manage.

This is followed by a talk from Stylianos I. Dimas, Commercial Director of OceanManager Inc., and a former business development director of respectable maritime software companies in Greece & UK, who will explain how digital technology can make these elements much easier to manage.
